My quest to play every game to have been #1 on the UK’s official games charts has taken me to the end of 1989. 1989 was dominated by the ridiculous months-long runs at #1 of Ocean’s Operation Wolf and Robocop, meaning it’s the shortest year in in terms of AAA entries apart from the initial half-year of 1984. And when Robocop was finally pushed aside… two more movie adaptations with similarities took its place by the end of the year, including another Ocean one. 1989 is not exactly the year to give me the best picture of the state of popular video games in the UK, but change is coming. This is Peak Movie Adaptation.
All of 1989′s reviews in one place:
- Operation Wolf (Ocean, Spectrum)
- Robocop (Ocean, Commodore 64)
- Crazy Cars (Hit Squad, Spectrum)
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (US Gold, Spectrum)
- Batman the Movie (Ocean, Amiga)
