#21: Microprose Soccer (Sensible Software/Microprose, Amiga, 1989)
While it features a simulation of a World Cup tournament that is largely faithful to the format of the real thing, it also features a six-a-side indoor version with a tournament based on the then-current attempt to popularise the sport in the US, the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Arsenal fans hate Chelsea fans, Liverpool fans hate Man United fans, but everybody, absolutely everybody hates American fans, who just don’t understand it and should go back to their ridiculous version of rugby with all the padding before they embarrass themselves any further. And yet, this American influence may just explain the lack of reverence the game holds for the sport, which, in case this wasn’t clear, is absolutely a virtue in this particular case.
