#20: Battle Chess (Interplay, Amiga, 1988/1989)
Each of the pieces is characterised in a way that at least tries to reflect its moveset and function; the queen becomes a terrifyingly powerful sorceress, the rook becomes a hulking behemoth that tramples all in its path, the king becomes a seemingly defenseless doddering old fool with some rather surprising tricks up his sleeve, and so on and so forth
