I’m Iain Mew, I was born in the ’80s, I’m a dad and I live in London.

I first played computer games when I was about five and my family got a Commodore 16. I first wrote about games not too much later, when I used pencils and a notepad to make my own games magazine in the style of Commodore Force. I didn’t stick at it for long, but I got out on paper how much I loved Boulder Dash II on the C64.

A decade, an Amiga and a PlayStation later, I was even more into music than games, and my writing breakthrough came when I was asked to write for the wonderful Stylus Magazine. My favourite feature of the site was always The Singles Jukebox, where a group of people reviewed new singles from around the world.

When the Jukebox was revived as its own site, I first wrote for it and then helped run it for the best part of the decade. I am super proud to have been part of expanding its diversity in terms of both writers and the music we covered. Also I got us to commit to covering “Gangnam Style” before the video even came out, and I wrote about lots of music that I love. I occasionally still show up there.

Meanwhile I carried on playing lots of video games, and became increasingly fascinated by the history of games and why my own story of playing them didn’t fit with the conventional American-dominated narratives I kept reading online. And around there, the story of this project starts.
