#21: Microprose Soccer (Sensible Software/Microprose, Amiga, 1989)
it features a simulation of a World Cup tournament that is largely faithful to the format of the real thing (though the list of 24 countries doesn’t coincide with any real iteration, with the inclusion of Oman, a country that has not only never qualified for a World Cup, but in 1989, had never even participated in any World Cup qualification, being particularly inexplicable)
(I swear the first time I ran a tournament, with no player-controlled teams, this was what happened. Scotland won the final 2-0)
